Statutory accounts arrive months after your year end and are built for compliance, not decisions. Management accounts are different: regular, timely reports that show how the business is really performing, so you can spot problems early and back good decisions with evidence rather than a gut feeling.
What are management accounts?
At heart, management accounts are a profit and loss account and balance sheet produced through the year, monthly or quarterly, alongside the measures that matter to your particular business. Unlike year-end accounts, there is no fixed format, so we build them around the questions you actually need answered.
That might be gross margin by product line, your cash runway, debtor days, or how the actual results compare with your budget. The point is to turn your bookkeeping into insight you can use while there is still time to respond.
What a typical report includes
Profit & loss
The period's results, compared with earlier periods and with your budget.
Balance sheet
A current view of what the business owns and owes.
Key metrics
The handful of KPIs that genuinely drive your business.
Cash and forecasting
Where your cash is heading, so you are not caught short.
Budget variances
Actuals against plan, with the reasons behind any gaps.
Plain-English commentary
What the numbers mean and what we would look at next.
Who benefits most from management accounts
Management accounts earn their keep when decisions carry real consequences and timing matters. They are especially valuable for:
- Growing businesses, Where quick calls on pricing, hiring and spending shape the trajectory.
- Businesses with lenders or investors, Who expect regular, credible reporting, often as part of a wider corporate finance conversation.
- Owners managing cash tightly, Who need to see what is coming before it arrives.
- Multi-site or multi-product firms, Where the headline figure hides what is really going on underneath.
Turning the numbers into decisions
A report nobody understands is not worth producing. We keep ours focused and readable, and we are happy to talk them through, so the figures lead to action: adjusting prices, reining in a cost, chasing debtors, or deciding you can afford that next hire with confidence.
