Newcastle's Tyne Bridge over the River Tyne at dusk, in the city where we are based
Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, supporting businesses right across the city and the wider North East.

We are based in Newcastle, so the city's mix of professional services, fast-growing digital firms, two large universities and a busy retail and hospitality scene is simply our day-to-day work. You get genuine local knowledge alongside the accounting itself, and a firm that is a short walk or call away rather than a distant name on an invoice.

Accountants who know the Newcastle economy

Newcastle has an unusually varied economy for a city of its size. The centre is built on professional and financial services such as law firms, consultancies, recruitment and finance, while the Newcastle Helix and Stephenson Quarter have drawn in software, data and life-science companies. Add the lettings market created by Newcastle and Northumbria universities, and the shops, bars and restaurants of Grainger Town, the Quayside and the NE1 core, and you have a lot of very different businesses packed into a few square miles.

We shape the work around where you fit. A software start-up on the Helix has very different concerns from a city-centre solicitor or a landlord with a row of student houses, so the advice you get reflects that rather than following a standard template. Being a Newcastle accountant, for us, means understanding those local realities, not just adding the city's name to a generic service.

Which Newcastle businesses do we work with?

These are the sectors we see most across the city, each with its own accounting rhythm.

Professional & financial services

Solicitors, consultants, recruiters and finance firms in the city centre, with company accounts, tax and profit planning handled properly.

Tech & digital

Software, data and life-science businesses around Newcastle Helix and Stephenson Quarter, including R&D and share-scheme questions.

Student & residential landlords

Landlords letting to the city's large student population, with rental accounts and property tax kept in good order.

Retail & hospitality

Independent shops, bars and restaurants in Grainger Town and on the Quayside, where margins and VAT need close attention.

Do you have an office in Newcastle city centre?

We are a Newcastle practice and work across the whole city, so meeting in person is straightforward when that is what you want. Most clients, though, run day to day through cloud software and a quick call or message, and rarely need to come in at all.

Whichever suits you, the way we work is the same. We take time to understand the business, agree a fixed fee up front, and keep you ahead of your deadlines rather than chasing them at the last minute.

Working with city-centre firms

For professional firms around the centre, we usually handle the company accounts, corporation tax and director's personal tax together, so the business and the people behind it are planned as one. Where a partnership or growing team is involved, accurate payroll and clear monthly figures keep everyone paid correctly and the partners informed.

Working with tech and digital companies

Digital businesses on the Helix often grow quickly and raise money, so cash and forecasting matter as much as compliance. We keep the records investor-ready, talk through funding with our corporate finance support, and flag R&D and share-scheme points early, bringing in specialist advice where a claim needs it.

The services Newcastle businesses ask for most

For city-centre companies, limited company accounts and corporation tax are the core work, usually alongside payroll for growing teams and management accounts where directors want to see performance through the year. Tech firms more often ask about tax planning and funding, where our corporate finance support comes in. Landlords across the city rely on Self Assessment and advice built around letting property, while retail and hospitality independents lean on VAT returns and bookkeeping to stay on top of tight margins.

We also help new ventures get going. If you are launching from one of the city's incubators or spinning out of a university, our start-up accounting and company formation support gets the structure right from day one.

How much does an accountant in Newcastle cost?

There is no single rate, because the right fee depends on the work. A sole trader who needs a tax return once a year costs far less to support than a growing limited company with payroll, VAT and monthly figures. What matters is that the price is clear before you commit.

We agree a fixed fee up front, usually monthly, so you know exactly what you are paying and there are no surprise bills at the year end. The things that move the fee are the size and type of business, how tidy your records are, whether you need VAT and payroll, and how often you want to see management figures. When we talk through what you need, we will explain what drives your quote so you can compare it fairly against others.

Key tax dates for Newcastle businesses

Most of the deadlines that catch people out are fixed in the calendar, so planning around them is half the battle. For individuals and the self-employed, the main Self Assessment dates are:

  • Register for Self Assessment by 5 October after the tax year in which you start.
  • Paper returns are due by 31 October; online returns and the balancing payment by 31 January.
  • Payments on account, where they apply, fall on 31 January and 31 July.

Limited companies file their accounts and corporation tax return after their own year end, and corporation tax is due before the return itself. Corporation tax is charged at 19% on profits up to £50,000 and 25% on profits above £250,000, with marginal relief in between that works out at an effective 26.5% in that band. These rates and dates can change, so we confirm the current figures with GOV.UK and HMRC for the relevant tax year and keep a simple calendar of your deadlines so nothing slips.

Switching to us is simple

1

A conversation first

We talk through your business, how your records are kept now and what you want from an accountant, in person in the city or over a video call.

2

A clear proposal

We set out the services you need and a fixed monthly or annual fee, so there are no surprises later on.

3

We handle the handover

If you already have an accountant, we contact them for your records and deal with the paperwork, then get your software and filings in order.

Making Tax Digital is coming for landlords and the self-employed. MTD for Income Tax starts on 6 April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000, with later phases planned for income over £30,000 (from April 2027) and over £20,000 (from April 2028). Many Newcastle landlords and freelancers are already moving their records on to cloud accounting to be ready. The later phases are announced policy and the detail can still change, so we confirm the current position with GOV.UK and HMRC before advising you.
